Forklift Mast Bearings

The carriage of a forklift needs some way to be carried up to the mast, which is where mast bearings come into play. These vital components enable the mast?s stages to extend and therefore are virtually indispensable on many modern forklift designs. In many cases, all you need are a few bearing kits to resurrect an existing forklift that?s having some difficulty giving an operating engineer the freedom to deploy the carriage.

Mast Bearing Guide By Size

Roller bearings come in countless sizes, so it could be nearly impossible to list all of those currently in use. Some manufacturers have decided to use industry standard components while a few have instead bucked trends and gone with what they viewed as convenient for their needs at the time. Fortunately, they?re all specified in terms of three numbers that describe the size of each of the three sizes of a mast roller bearing installation package. Dimensions are given in millimeters as follows:

Outer Diameter (OD) by Inner Diameter (ID) by Width

The final number is literally the physical width of a bearing measured end to end. Bearings that are marked with three dimension numbers normally correspond to this convention, though a few makes and models have elected to defy it. In order to check a part for exact compliance, measure the OD, ID and width separately and record each measurement in millimeters.

Tight machining tolerances have specified a high degree of precision, however. A single part may boast an OD measurement of less than 90 mm but greater than 89 mm, which is normally a much smaller distance than most human technicians might consider of statistical significance.

That being said, it?s important to note these differences, especially if you have an actual specifications sheet from the manufacturer or are able to inspect the part?s specifications online. Helmar includes a full listing of the dimensions with each component that?s listed on our site in order to expedite the classification of various forklift mast bearings.

Forklift Mast Rollers

On most models, mast rollers run between the inner mast area. A series of four additional lift mast rollers may be found between the inner and out mast locations. Masts themselves are positioned on the anterior of a forklift, which enables them to aid in the ability for technicians and operating engineers to raise or lower loads.

Other bearings, such as wheel bearing assemblies, may be found throughout other portions of nearly any given model of forklift. The purpose of these bearings is to permit smooth motion across whatever axis a given part is designed to move through or against. Mast rollers are a vital component, so they should be treated as any load-bearing piece of equipment might.
